Friends Welcome Warriors in Transition to Park

21 Jul 2014 2:33 PM | Hillary Clawson (Administrator)
Thanks to a joint effort involving the USO, the Mason Neck Citizens Association, the Friends, and park staff, soldiers from Fort Belvoir's Warriors in Transition program were recently invited to the park for an afternoon of hiking and nature photography. Assistant Park Manager, Dave Stapleton, provided a brief history of Mason Neck and the park. He was followed by a Friends volunteer who gave pointers on nature photography and answered questions. With Friends volunteers as hosts and a park naturalist as guide, the soldiers enjoyed a leisurely hike and very pleasant afternoon. Mother Nature cooperated, providing lots of opportunities to photograph flora and fauna. All groups involved are hoping to provide this program to other Warriors in Transition on a regular basis.
