ENJOY BIRDS AND BUTTERFLIES AT MEADOWOOD

Come out to the Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area on October 7 for a great day of birds and butterflies!  The Audubon Society Northern Virginia (ASNV) and the Bureau of Land Management will be conducting the local "Big Sit," an annual international noncompetitive birding event.  A Big Sit involves finding a good spot for bird watching, and counting all the birds you can see or hear within a 17-foot diameter circle.  ASNV will be counting butterflies too.  In addition there will be:

- Guided birdwatching walks at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.;

- Free copies of the newly-created checklists of the birds of Northern Virginia, the birds of the Mid-Atlantic region and the butterflies of the Occoquan Bay region;

- "Butterflies and Skippers of Northern Virginia", available for purchase;

- Games and activities for children;

- Light snacks for guests.

Activities will be centered at the Pollinator Garden.  Park at the Mustang Loop Parking Lot, 10702 Harley Road, at the corner of Harley and Gunston Roads

ASNV also needs both birding experts and butterfly identifiers to help with the counts.  If you would like to help, you can sign up at
